One of the joys of summer is kicking off your shoes and walking barefoot through the lush, green grass. So, “Simplify Your Home” has outlined these 5 steps to ensure your lawn is of premier golf course quality.
In early October, you will need to aerate your yard. This link details what aerating is and why it is important for your lawn. http://www.the-lawn-advisor.com/Lawn-Aeraters.html. Aerating is hard work, so we recommend renting aerating equipment from a home improvement store to help you out with the task. After the lawn is aerated, you will need to over seed. Your seed package will provide instructions on the amount of seed necessary for the square footage of your lawn. Grass seed type will vary depending on the area of the country in which you live. Once the seed is down, fertilize with an any season fertilizer.
In mid-November, you will need to winterize your lawn with a winterizer dry lawn fertilizer.
In mid-March to early April, apply a turf builder with haltz. This is a crab grass preventer and will also fertilize your lawn.
In mid-July to early August, apply a summer turf builder. This fertilizes the grass while killing bugs that might damage your lawn.
In mid-late September apply a fall turf builder, which fertilizes your lawn and kills off your fall weeds.
Throughout the process, water with ¼ inch to ½ inch of water within 48 hours each time you fertilize. Also, cut your lawn at 4 inches high at least two times per week.
While this process takes a little more effort than just regularly mowing the lawn, you can be assured your yard will be the pride of the neighborhood.
