Back to school is a reminder for all of us to take a look at our desk piled with papers, pens and paperclips and set a new goal to get this place of work organized so we can use our time more efficiently. “Simplify Your Home” has these tips on how to help you with this process.
Step #1: Clean everything out and off your desk.
And that means everything! We are starting from scratch here. While you are doing it, purge, purge, purge. Anything that you don’t need must go. This means extra pencils, pens and papers.
Step #2: Get holders for all your pens, paperclips and other miscellaneous items.
There is a place for everything and everything has its place. Make sure that your drawers and containers have a purpose and that you aren’t just throwing everything in a junk drawer. Make it a habit to put things back where they belong.
Step #3: Develop a filing system for yourself.
Consider color-coding or place things in alphabetical order. Just make sure you are creating a system that works best for you.
Step #4: Create a workable space for yourself.
Make sure you have the correct lighting and that your computer and chair are situated in a way that makes you comfortable. Eye and neck strain can cause stress. This is your workspace and it should be as comfortable as possible.
Step #5: Have a notepad readily available by your phone.
You will be getting ideas, receiving phone numbers and listening to messages all day. Make sure you have a place to jot this information down that is in arm’s reach.
Step #6: Set time aside each day to organize your desk.
It’s best that this be at the end of the day. Setting 15 minutes aside to clean up the day’s work is going to ensure you are more organized.
These are just some tips for making your life easier. Be sure to check our other archived blogs for more tips on moving & storage and other ways to organize your life.
