Going Green With Your Cleaning Solutions
As we move through our process of spring cleaning, it is critical to have the cleaning products that will make your home sparkling clean but are also safe for your family. “Simplify Your Home” has put together a list of do-it-yourself, all natural cleaning products that are environmentally and budget friendly. We invite you to try them out, give your opinion and add to our list.
All Purpose Cleaner
There is one powerful punch in grapefruit seeds. Grapefruit seed extract is fabulous all-natural cleaner that can be used for cleaning just about anything including counter tops, windows and bathtubs. You can find it at your local Whole Foods or natural foods store. Mix 40 drops to every 32 oz of water.
Soap Scum and Hard Water Stains Remover
The key to all-natural cleaning is to have these three simple ingredients in your home . . . lemon juice, white vinegar and baking powder. By taking ½ cup of vinegar, the juice from ½ a lemon and enough baking powder to make a paste, you can create a cleaning solution similar to one of the leading branded bathtub cleaning products.
Furniture Polish
Another environmentally friendly cleaning solution is to mix 1 cup olive oil with ½ cup lemon juice to polish your wood furniture. Add a little garlic to the leftovers, serve with pasta and voila, dinner is served!
Rust Remover
Who would of thought those same ingredients found in your margarita can solve your rust problem. Just sprinkle salt over rust spot and then soak with lime juice for a simple solution (hold off on the tequila).
Clothes/Carpet Stain Remover
This one your grandmother always told you about, but we had to slip it in. No environmentally friendly cleaner list would be complete without good old-fashioned club soda. Just be sure you allow it to soak into the stain before blotting.
Garbage Disposal Odor Remover
After eating lemons and oranges, throw rinds with ice into your garbage disposal for a fresh scent.
Microwave Cleaner
H2O. It’s true! Place a bowl of water in the microwave and heat for 5 minutes. Wipe down microwave and presto job complete.
